The Lizzie Lowy Culture Abroad Grant

We are very excited to share our new initiative; The Lizzie Lowy Culture Abroad Grant. Elizabeth Lowy was born in Co. Leitrim Ireland in 1944, and in tragic circumstances had to move at the age of 12 to the UK. Elizabeth, known as Lizzie, had an amazing cultural awareness, despite the difficult start she had in life. No matter where people were from or what religion they may have been, Lizzie was happy to sit down and chat with them over a cup of tea, or a glass of white wine. Sadly, Lizzie was taken from us suddenly in the summer of 2021, and her humour and compassion have been sorely missed by her family, friends and those who she became close to over the years.

Therefore, in her memory, we have decided to create the Lizzie Lowy Culture Abroad Grant. The grant is to support students who ordinarily may struggle to afford to have a culture/education abroad experience but are passionate about doing so.

This initiative will be delivered by Student Universe and AES. We will offer a 500 USD flight voucher applicable to the programme dates which will support students to cover some of their travel expenses. We aim to deploy 10.000 USD (therefore 20 students) from 20 Universities in the US will be granted an opportunity to receive the fund and make their study abroad dream come true.

Once the University has decided on the student, their details will be sent to AES where the team will instigate the process of issuing the travel voucher with Student Universe.

AES & Student Universe share the same mission of increasing student mobility and creating global citizens and we hope this is a small way of helping those who ordinarily wouldn’t be able to be part of the global community to feel part of it.
