The Placement

From scale-ups to Fortune 500 companies, we partner with leading host organizations in London, connecting them with bright international talent. Since our inception in 1984, we have matched more than 8,000 of our trainees with host organizations such as BlackRock, Citi Private Bank, Credit Suisse, HSBC, Thomson Reuters and more. Our trainees get the opportunity to fully immerse themselves in a business environment, gaining critical international experience and exposure.

Build your skills, network, resume and potential with practical training. You’ll undertake a full-time placement with a London based host organization in one of the following placement areas: finance, business operations, IT, marketing and communications, events and HR. You’ll access senior members of the London business community, develop your personal brand, and take the first steps to becoming a leader of tomorrow.

Study

The Mountbatten Professional Development Program is a self-directed learning program which helps our trainees to build the practical skills and knowledge needed to prepare them for a career in global business through online courses and in-person learning.

The aim is to:

• Expand your skillset
• Sharpen your critical thinking skills
• Increase your international business knowledge
• Enhance your performance through reflective thinking

This tailored program promotes personal and professional development to improve and inspire performance within the work placement whilst earning a (Coursera) certification to further boost your resume.

How it works

During your year, you will examine the forces that shape and influence international business through weekend workshops and seminars delivered by academics, industry wide professionals and Mountbatten alumni. You will learn of the challenges and opportunities managers face in core business functions within an international context and develop an appreciation of cultural intelligence as an essential capability/ vehicle to interact and lead effectively.

In addition, you will be enrolled with Coursera where you can select your own courses resulting in a globally recognised certification. The aim of this is to facilitate the learning process through digital tools such as virtual classrooms, engaging content, flexible models, and choice of scale in a single platform. This, in conjunction with the in-person learning, will enable you to upskill, or reskill, in key growth areas – including tech, marketing, and leadership, as you interact with teachers, industry professionals and peers.

As a result, you will have the opportunity to put the knowledge that you have learned into practice and move forwards with an awareness of the challenges of operating in a global, interconnected world that is increasingly digital, yet increasingly characterised by risk, uncertainty and complex problems. This experiential learning program is designed to feed into the placement by teaching relevant skills and theories.

Eligibility

Have you got what it takes to be a Mountbatten? If you are a bright, ambitious young professional looking for a career adventure, you’re exactly who we’re looking for.

Even better:

• You are a Non-UK citizen
• Graduated with a 3.0 GPA (minimum) or equivalent
• You have at least 6-months full-time professional experience

Accommodation

Arrive in London to a ready-made community of like-minded professionals. You’ll be staying in one of our shared apartments in central London, a short stroll from world-famous landmarks and trendy districts. Apartment locations are within walking distance of Underground Tube stations, making them convenient for your commute as well as for exploring the wider city. Easy-access to amenities and London’s cultural scene, you’ll have everything you need in arms-reach and more.

Best of all, Mounbatten accommodation is provided at no additional cost to participants!

Apartments typically include:

• Fully furnished rooms with central heating
• Two bedrooms, two bathrooms (four Mountbattens per apartment)
• Washer/dryer
• No utility bills
• Bi-weekly cleaning service
• TV and Internet service

You’ll be sharing an apartment with other Mountbattens, and a room with one other. All rooms are single gender and apartments are mixed gender. A single gender apartment may be requested.

Visa

When you secure your placement you’ll need to start applying for your visa. Mountbatten is a UK governemt approved sponsor of Tier 5 visas. This visa is required for your participation on the Mountbatten Program.

The visa process can start once you have accepted a placement with one of our Host Organizations. We’ll supply all the paperwork you need, guide you through the process of sitting your appointment at a UK Embassy and coordinate your arrival in London.

April 2025 Fees

Are you looking for a life changing year in London? There’s a program fee for participation which is split into three instalments: (1) an application fee, (2) a deposit when you enter our candidate pool, and (3) your remaining program fee, payable once placed with one of our partner companies.

You receive

• Rent-free shared accommodation and utilities
• Monthly stipend of GBP £690

• NHS health coverage (surcharge applies – see additional expenses below)

Fees

Additional Expenses

We also recommend you bear in mind the following additional expenses:

• UK visa application fee: USD $300-400*
• Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS): GBP £1035*. This is a mandatory fee as part of your visa application and gives you access to the UK’s National Health Service (NHS)
• Travel to the nearest embassy or consulate for a visa interview
• Airfare costs to and from London, which vary according to the time of year (ISIC cards may provide some discounts)
• Housing security deposit of GBP £150 (refundable)
• Personal possessions insurance
• Approximately GBP £1,500 will be needed to cover expenses during the first few weeks
